The ongoing military situation in the vicinity of Waingmaw Township has raised concerns among agricultural workers regarding their ability to continue farming and cultivating crops, which poses a significant challenge to their future livelihoods.
Residents report that the most recent agricultural activities in the Waingmaw area occurred in 2023. They express concerns regarding their ability to engage in farming in 2024 due to ongoing conflicts, which may result in food insecurity.
“In this context, farming presents significant challenges. The situation is exacerbated by the proximity of the land to the SAC's No (58) military camp. When I visit the farm, they monitor me with a drone," remarked a local resident.
A local resident, however, expressed concerns regarding the elevated prices of goods and the challenges associated with the transportation and trade of products at the Kanpaik Ti border gate.
“Farming has become increasingly challenging, and the cost of purchasing food has risen significantly, making it difficult for living. Money just flows in and out on a daily basis,” marked the above resident.
Furthermore, it is well-known that there are regular explosions occurring in the vicinity of Waing Maw, necessitating the evacuation of local residents to ensure their safety.
