The Myitkyina-Putao highway was reported to destroy and landslides, mountain collapses and bridges damages were occurred along the way due to the awful weather condition in the beginning of July.
It is known that, although the passenger cars are able to travel along the road within these days, the road and bridges that destroyed have not repaired yet and due to one and a half month periods of landslides, mountain collapses and bridges damages along the way, the cargo trucks can not be able to travel until now.
According to a cargo truck driver, “there were some passenger cars went up to Putao yesterday. However, due to the unrepaired road, the passengers and the goods from the vehicles which travels to Putao have to transfer and reload again to the vehicles which come from the Putao side between Zananhka creek and Nta Galu village (100-121 Miles) which is located before Sumprabum Town.
Even though, the road which was destroyed by the landslides had refilled up with the soil, the vehicles could not pass through the road due to the soil that did not turn hard yet. But I think, the cargo trucks will be able to pass in the following couple weeks. Currently, wooden bridges are constructing and replacing at the bridges which were damaged by the awful weather.”
The Myitkyina-Putao highway has been closed due to the armed-clashes between the two armed-forces since March and not only the highway but also the water-course has been closed by the SAC because of the military operation in the Tiyang Zup village.
It is also stated that the goods which are transporting to Putao during the 6 months period of the highway and water-course closure have been transported by the aircraft, therefore, the prices of the goods in the Putao region have skyrocketed. In addition, it is also learned that the locals are struggling with the skyrocketing commodities prices in the region.
