Floods began on 29 June in some areas of Myitkyina, Kachin State. Although the floodwaters receded by 3 July, some neighborhoods remain covered with silt and water. Additionally, the cleaning of these flooded neighborhoods has not yet been completed.

Local residents report that there is a lot of garbage and a strong odor in areas affected by the floodwaters. Moreover, electricity is still unavailable in these flooded areas. The fuel shortage in Myitkyina town makes it difficult to use generators for cleanup and waste removal.

The lack of electricity also hampers access to potable water. The leftover garbage and the scarcity of clean water are causing illnesses among residents, including diarrhea and skin diseases.

While some Social Relief Associations are providing assistance, there is still a dire need for potable water, food, and medical supplies for the flood victims.

Reports indicate that, aside from SanPya Ward, Edin Ward, Tatkone Ward, and Jan Mai Kawng Ward, most other neighborhoods in Myitkyina town were flooded and suffered damage.

According to the Kachin State Meteorology and Hydrology Department, heavy rains are expected between July 8th and 13th in Bhamo District, Mohnyin District, Myitkyina District, and Putao District. Heavy rains along the MayHka and MaliHka rivers could cause the Irrawaddy River to flow rapidly, potentially leading to mountain collapses and further river flooding.
