Armed conflicts between the SAC and Kachin Independence Army (KIA) escalated due to the KIA’s offensive attack near Mai Ja Yang, a KIA-controlled town, on March 27th at approximately 7:00 AM. Consequently, numerous local residents are evacuating to safer locations, as reported by local sources.
A resident of Mai Ja Yang described the situation: “Since 7:00 AM, we have been subjected to continuous heavy weapons fire. We were unable to have breakfast because, while preparing to have our morning meal, the SAC’s Y-12 Aircraft hovered over the town, forcing us to seek shelter in a trench to avoid an airstrike.”
The SAC launched heavy weapons fire from their military camp stationed at Yaw Yung Mountain, situated between Mai Ja Yang Town and Loije Town, resulting in two artillery shells landing and exploding on the Chinese side. Four additional explosions occurred in the vicinity of Mai Ja Yang Town.
Although no civilian casualties have been reported, residents from Mai Ja Yang Town and the Chinese border are evacuating due to the artillery shell explosions.
In accordance with a local resident’s report, the local populace was forced to seek refuge in trenches due to intense artillery fire originating from the Yaw Yung Military Camp and the SAC’s Y-12 Aircraft flying over the town.
Furthermore, on March 7th, the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) initiated a coordinated offensive against several SAC military camps of varying sizes along the Myitkyina-Bhamo highway. Since this morning, the KIA has simultaneously targeted four SAC military camps in the vicinity of Mai Ja Yang Town. Consequently, the armed conflict between the two forces remains highly intense.
