It has been almost a month since the two evacuee camps in Chipwi township have been unable to withdraw aid funds due to the internet being cut off; those fleeing the war are facing financial difficulties.
World Social Organization (World Vision) is providing financial support to those IDPs from 20,000 kyat to 25,000 kyat per person. At present, it is said that it is difficult to get money because the internet connection has been cut.
It is reported that the money provided by World Society (World Vision) is supported by the online payment system by the 20th of the month. As a result, the IDPs are facing a financial crisis due to the current cut off of the internet.
“We manage the difficulties of children’s education and family livelihood with financial support. In the previous months, we’ve got financial support on 20th. Now we can’t withdraw anything because of the internet cut off. I’m worried about how things will turn out over time”, said a local who has not received financial support for more than a month because of the internet connection.
It is said that the two IDP camps in Chipwi township, where a total population of nearly 1,500 people live, have been withdrawn from social organizations due to the political crisis and unrest, but currently only one international organization (World Vision) is providing support.
In Kachin State, starting from November 7, the MPT, Mytel and Oredoo operators have been disconnected from the internet in the areas such as Myitkyina, Waingmaw, Bhamo, Phakant, Mogaung, Mohnyin and Chipwi. Although it is somewhat convenient for phone calls in Chipwi area, it is said that no internet can be used because the internet connection is still cut off these days.
