It has come to our attention that students from Sumpra Bum township who are currently undertaking their matriculation examination for the upcoming academic year in Putao Town are facing challenges in returning home due to ongoing armed tensions in the Sumpra Bum Region.
The examinations are scheduled to conclude this week, however, due to the prevailing security situation and displacement of local residents, the students are unable to return to their homes. They are currently residing at the Ho Khu Primary School in Putao Town.
As of last week, a total of 14 students and their teachers had arrived at the Ho Khu Primary School to participate in the examinations. The teachers who travelled with the students to take examination are actively seeking solutions to ensure the students’ safe return home after the completion of their exams.
The instructor mentioned that despite the students having completed the exam, the armed clashes in the Sumpra Bum Region have escalated, resulting in a deserted village and the displacement of some students’ families.
Consequently, a total of 20 individuals, including students and teachers, have finished the exam but are now facing the challenge of returning home due to road closures caused by the intensified armed tensions.
It is noteworthy that this is the second year that students from Sumpra Bum Township have traveled to Putao Town to take the matriculation exam. This year, the Grade-12 students of the new education system are taking the test for the first time.
Currently, the students from Sumpra Bum are residing at the Ho Khu Primary School. However, concerns have arisen regarding their accommodation after the exam, as well as the disruption of food supplies to the area due to the road closures.
It is important to note that the matriculation exam commenced on March 11 and will conclude on March 19 nationwide.
Since March 8th, the inhabitants of the Sumpra Bum Region have been evacuating to secure locations due to the escalating military conflict between the two armed forces.
