In Waingmaw Township, most of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from armed conflicts are relying on river water and rainwater due to the lack of access to clean drinking water. This has led to widespread cases of diarrhea and malaria.

Children and the elderly in Ingan Village and Naung Hee IDP Camp are particularly affected, with reports indicating that nearly 300 out of 1,000 people in Naung Hee are suffering from diarrhea. Despite receiving some clean drinking water assistance from relevant organizations, IDPs continue to use river water for drinking and cooking, contributing to the health crisis.

The rainy season has further exacerbated the situation, increasing malaria cases among the displaced populations. Previously, those displaced in Ingan Village and Naung Hee relied solely on river water, and rainwater is now being used again during the rainy season.

IDPs from areas along the riverbanks, including Shwe Nyaung Pyin, Aung Myay (1) and (2), and Tar Law Gyi, are also suffering from diarrhea due to the use of river water. Similarly, IDPs from Washawng village, who fled the conflict independently, face the same issues.

Currently, all IDP camps require bicarbonate, medical aid, raincoats, potable water, and food aid to address the ongoing health problems, according to the IDPs. Some evacuees are being sent to hospitals for medical treatment due to the severity of their conditions.
