Tomato farmers and curry farmers in Waingmaw town are mainly affected by the high prices of herbicides, fungicides and fuel, and they are in need of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides. It is reported that there is also a difficulty in finding workers.
Due to the price of goods and the shortage of labor caused by the political unrest, farmers and commercial tomato growers in Waingmaw are facing the problem of finding workers.
When Pajau Media asked about the current difficulties faced by farmer, U Phyu Soe, a tomato grower replied that "Now labor is in trouble. They pay 8,000 to 10,000 kyats per day, but there are no people because they are harvesting rice. The workers are paid 12,000 per day for harvesting rice.”
In the past, they could employ up to 30 workers during the planting season, but this season they can only employ 4 to 5 workers. Therefore, it is said that there are problems in planting and harvesting operation.
Due to the current political crisis, farmers and commercial tomato growers have to rush in finding workers and facing hardship to harvest in Waingmaw township.
Due to the tightening of the political situation and the rise in commodity prices, farmers could grow up to 50 packs of various tomatoes in the past, but this year they can only grow up to 5 packs of tomato varieties, said the farmer who grows commercial tomatoes.
