It has come to our attention that a non-government owned pharmacy, restaurants, and all convenience stores in the vicinity of Myitkyina General Hospital have been temporarily closed due to security concerns.

An employee of the hospital, who wishes to remain anonymous, shared some insights into the situation. According to this individual, the specific reasons for the closures are not entirely clear, but it is believed that security played a significant role in the decision. The employee mentioned that "There have been frequent instances of motorcycles belonging to hospital visitors being stolen. However, with the implementation of a single gate for both entry and exit, along with the presence of a security guard, these incidents have reportedly decreased."

While the exact rationale behind the closures remains uncertain, it is understood that security was a primary consideration. As a result of these measures, there are currently no small, non-government-owned shops operating within the hospital premises. The consolidation of entry and exit points appears to have had a positive impact in deterring theft.

A female individual expressed her concerns regarding the recent closure of small shops within the hospital premises. While acknowledging the potential benefits for security, she highlighted the inconvenience faced by patients seeking treatment from remote areas. She emphasized the need for convenient access to basic necessities, including medicine, for those visiting the hospital from outside the town.

Effective from the end of February, all shops within the Myitkyina General Hospital, including pharmacies, convenience stores, and restaurants, have been permanently closed. Additionally, tricycle and motorbike taxis operating within the hospital have also been permanently banned.
