Fighting is ongoing between the Myanmar military-aligned Min Zay Thant Militia forces and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) along Tanai-Lido Road in Kachin State, particularly in the Kamaing region near Lawa village. According to local sources, the junta has reinforced its troops at Kamaing military strategic hill and the area near Maran Kahtawng village.
The clashes reportedly began last week when junta forces and their allied militias launched an offensive in the Lawa village area. The conflict has continued, forcing residents to flee to nearby forests and mountains for safety.
"The military and Min Zay Thant’s troops launched an attack on this side of Lawa. The fighting is still ongoing, and villagers have fled to the surrounding forests and hills," said a displaced resident.
Currently, junta forces are strengthening their military presence at Kamaing military strategic hill and have also blocked the entrance gate of Maran Kahtawng village group, increasing military activity in the region.
"The checkpoint gate in Maran Kahtawng village has been closed recently. Meanwhile, the junta is reinforcing its troops and increasing military movements around Kamaing military strategic hill," a local woman reported.
According to residents, the conflict escalated on March 22 at around 3:30 PM when junta troops and their allied militias launched artillery strikes and attempted to advance into Lawa village.
The attacking forces include various military units such as the Dum Bang Battalion (297), Dum Bang Battalions (381 and 282), Shadu Zup Battalion (297), Warazup Min Zay Thant Militia forces, as well as units from Nammati and Moe Kaung.
Currently, junta forces and their allied militias are increasing their military presence in several villages across Kachin State, including areas around Hpakant, Putao, and Waingmaw.
