Civilians from Sagaing and Magway Regions Among the Most Victims of Junta’s Arson and Killings

According to data collected by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), a total of 72 civilians have been killed due to arson and executions carried out by the military junta from January 1, 2024, to March 18, 2025.


Among these, 42 individuals were burned alive, while the bodies of 30 others were set on fire after they were killed.


Sagaing Region recorded the highest number of casualties, with 24 deaths, followed by Magway Region with 20 deaths.


On March 7 and March 12, junta forces launched an attack on Thapaung Village in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, capturing six civilians, torturing, and executing them. The report further states that one victim was beheaded, and their body was burned.


Similarly, on March 17, a junta airstrike on Sein Khan Village in Bhamo Township, Kachin State, killed six civilians.


At present, the military junta continues to target civilians, carrying out intense airstrikes on residential areas and public spaces.


Since the coup, a total of 6,412 civilians have been killed, and 28,888 individuals have been arrested. Among them, 6,785 people have been released, according to a report published yesterday.
