Following the loss of several military bases to anti-coup forces in Myanmar, the SAC initiated Operation Yan Naing Min in an effort to regain control, sparking fierce combat with retaliatory airstrikes and heavy artillery shelling in these regions.
In response to the anti-coup forces capturing SAC bases on September 3, coup leader Min Aung Hlaing announced the resumption of offensive actions, resulting in extensive SAC airstrikes on opposition-held areas.
On September 26, at approximately 6:00 AM, SAC jets bombarded an IDP camp near Than Twe town, which had fallen under the control of the Arakan Army (AA). The airstrike left 14 civilians dead, primarily women and children, and injured 25 others.
Civilian deaths are rising in territories where anti-coup forces are active due to the indiscriminate SAC artillery fire and relentless air bombardments, often failing to distinguish between combatants and civilians.
Meanwhile, Myanmar's southern regions are grappling with catastrophic floods, as SAC continues to attack anti-coup strongholds both from the air and on the ground.
From early September through September 26, SAC's aerial attacks have resulted in 138 civilian deaths and 123 injuries. Local reports indicate the hardest-hit areas include Naung Cho, Thi Baw, La Shio, Nam Hkam in Northern Shan, Dee Mo So and Nann Mel Kong in Karenni, Maung Taw, Pauk Taw, Kam Taung Gyi, Taung Kouk, and Than Twe in Rakhine State, as well as regions in Pago, Magway, Mandalay, and Sagaing Divisions.
