After being closed for more than three months, the checkpoint in front of the 58th Battalion and the Wuyan Militia checkpoint in Waingmaw have reopened, allowing normal passage. However, inspections remain stringent, according to local sources.

"Now that the checkpoints have reopened, we can travel as usual. But inspections are extremely strict. Even small packages carried on motorbikes are opened and thoroughly checked," a local resident reported.

Although the checkpoints resumed operations on February 16, military council troops continue to conduct strict inspections of individuals, vehicles, and motorcycles due to the ongoing military tensions between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA)/Kachin People's Defense Force (KPDF) and the State Administration Council (SAC).

Located along the Waingmaw-Kanpaiti road, the 58th Battalion and Wuyang Militia checkpoints had previously restricted the passage of trucks, motorcycles, and passenger cars, making travel difficult for local residents. The military council initially closed the checkpoints on November 25 last year amid an intense standoff with KIA forces. More than three months later, the checkpoints have reopened, allowing traffic to resume.

Despite the reopening, military council forces remain stationed in front of the 58th Battalion and continue to enforce security measures. Additionally, marinas along the Irrawaddy River, such as Khat Cho and Naung Hee, remain closed under military control.

Meanwhile, military council forces have reportedly launched attacks in Waingmaw, Putao, and Tanai using aerial bombs and drones as part of their ongoing military operations.
