Challenges in Medical Treatment after Landmine Incident in Tanai

A Naga male individual has unfortunately had his leg amputated due to a landmine incident. This has resulted in significant financial challenges for him in terms of obtaining the necessary medical treatment in Tanai Town, Kachin State.


The individual is identified as Ko Kar Pone, a Naga male from Tanai and a father of five children. It is understood that the incident occurred while he was engaged in the search for medicinal herbal plants in the vicinity of Tanai and Nam Sai Mountain.


According to a reliable source close to Ko Kar Pone, "He is affiliated with the Naga National Association. During an expedition to gather medicinal plants with his team, he unfortunately encountered a landmine, resulting in the amputation of his right leg. This unfortunate event has severely impacted his ability to receive adequate medical treatment, compounded by the responsibility of providing for his five children."


Ko Kar Pone suffered a severe injury while engaging in a medicinal herb foraging expedition with his companions. The incident occurred as they ventured from Ta Sate Village in Tanai Township towards Nam Sai Mountain, situated on the right side of Tanai creek. Tragically, Ko Kar Pone stepped on a landmine, resulting in the amputation of his right leg due to the explosive impact.


Prompt action was taken, and Ko Kar Pone was swiftly transported to Tanai Hospital on the same day. Recognizing the severity of his condition, he was subsequently transferred to Myitkyina Hospital yesterday for specialized care.
