Residents have reported that following the expansion of Lane (1) in Naung Soon Village, Mohnyin Township, by three feet on either side, they have been requesting the relocation of houses situated within the designated road area.
A resident from the area, who had to move because of the land allocation for the road, stated, “For approximately a year, the residents of the Lower Part of Naung Soon have been appealing to the road authority for additional land to expand the road, as they believe Lane (1) is excessively narrow. The authority has indicated that the road will be widened in the first week of 2025; however, they have instructed us to relocate on January 15.”
The municipal office has declared that the project will be relocated by January 15th, resulting in the demolition of certain buildings and wall fences, with renovations currently in progress.
“Certain residences have been constructed in close proximity to the fence, necessitating their demolition. The process of dismantling wall fences and repairing the structures is quite challenging given the current market prices. Lacking the financial means to relocate, they are compelled to take out loans to facilitate their move,” the local resident stated.
It is also acknowledged that approximately 40 residences have been required to be relocated as a result of the road expansion. Despite the fact that these are substantial legal properties, the appropriate government authorities have not offered any compensation for the incurred losses.
