Residents report that drug transactions are occurring openly in Ma Mon Kai village, located in the Inndawgyi region, while the authorities appear to be taking no measures to address the situation.
Last year, the Nasint Kwi mountain had a single opium den. Currently, the village is home to four establishments engaged in drug sales. There have been no arrests made. According to a 47-year-old resident, the number of sellers is equal to the number of drug users.
The opium dens have been operational for nearly two years. The prevalence of drug trafficking and usage is escalating, attributed to the absence of arrests. Local residents have reported that the rise in drug users has resulted in an increase in thefts and marital issues.
Residents assert that the local authorities are failing to effectively tackle the drug issue, focusing instead on collecting taxes at entry points and imposing levies on gold mining operations.
