As reported by the local residents, the Myitkyina-Putao highway which was damaged due to the rough weather condition, was urgently repaired for emergency travel. However, since the beginning of September, not only the passenger cars but also fuel trucks are able to travel along the highway.
According to a local resident, “The cargo trucks and fuel trucks started to travel on September 5th, but there are still some places where the road needs to be repaired. There are nearly 50 places from Hpong Inn Creek to Hkin du Yang village where the roads were destroyed. All of those 50 places were just repaired for emergency travel. However, currently both passenger cars and fuel trucks can travel along the highway.”
It is also known that the roads which were damaged by the rough weather conditions are currently being repaired by the KIO government and there were also some places where half of the road were slid down due to the heavy rainfalls. It is also said that the areas were filled with soil and the Su Yang village where almost the whole road slid down were filled with not only soil but also constructed with logs.
The passenger cars can travel along the road as the highway was repaired for emergency travel, however, the fuel trucks which are able to travel along the highway can just carry 50 jerry cans of fuel per truck.
The Myitkyina-Putao highway has been closed for more than 3 months due to the intensified armed-clashes between the two armed-forces, and it reopened at the end of June due to the permission of the two armed-forces. As said by the local residents, after the reopening of the highway, the roads were damaged and blocked again due to the rough weather conditions and landslide along the road in the beginning of July.
