In recent days, junta troops have been carrying out arrests at several small restaurants in Myitkyina, Kachin State, according to local sources. While major and well-known restaurants have not been targeted, young men and occasionally young women have been detained at smaller food establishments. Residents report that those arrested are not told where they are being taken.
A local youth shared: “Raids at famous restaurants are rare, but recently we’ve often heard of arrests at smaller places.” The majority of those detained are reportedly young males, with some cases involving young women as well.
Currently, the military continues daily operations across Kachin State, using ground troops, airstrikes, drones, and heavy artillery. The widespread raids and continued conflict have left locals living in fear and uncertainty.
