Frequent armed robberies have been reported along the road between Myitkyina and Hpakant in Kachin State, where a group of armed individuals has been threatening travelers and looting their belongings at gunpoint.

The incidents have been occurring between Lawa and Namti villages, with travelers being stopped and robbed of their valuables. According to a local source, a similar robbery took place on March 26, when motorcycles and cars were intercepted, and passengers were robbed of their possessions.

While the identity of the armed group remains unclear, witnesses describe them as young men carrying guns and knives. They target passing vehicles, stealing cash and valuable items.

The robberies have been taking place along the main highway connecting Myitkyina to Hpakant and Tanai, an area where frequent clashes between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) allied forces and the military junta’s allied troops have led to intermittent road closures.
