It has been reported by local residents that approximately 300 acres of paddy fields sustained damage as a result of the hailstorm that occurred on November 21st in the village of Lung San Ywar Thit, located in the Inn Daw Gyi region.

A female farmer expressed her concerns regarding the devastation of her ten acres of paddy field that, “the harvesters are prepared for the rice harvest, and the necessary fuel has already been secured. However, a hailstorm has devastated our paddy fields just one week prior to the harvest. I am unable to sleep. I had intended to engage in charitable activities and host a wedding for my only son with this year's rice yield. Now, I find myself at a loss. All of my aspirations have been shattered”.

The woman independently raised her son following the death of her husband and also manages her own farming activities.

“I believed that I would be able to settle the debt related to the rice. Once the debt was cleared, I anticipated that I could rest and consume the remaining rice. However, if I am unable to repay the loan, the farm will be seized. My son was enlisted for service just before we commenced our farming activities, which made the decision to select him particularly challenging. After making that choice, I had to focus on working the land. Unfortunately, the rice crop was severely damaged by hail, resulting in a total loss of yield. I am feeling despondent and have been in tears,” stated a female farmer who suffered the loss of nearly 17 acres of rice fields, conveying her emotions.

A total of 22 farmers have reported losses as a result of the hailstorm, with 5 of those being women farmers. These affected individuals are seeking assistance from both the government and civil society organizations, as they are currently experiencing significant challenges in their livelihoods.
