The depletion of the stream within the IDP camp has created significant challenges in accessing drinking water. As the duration of displacement has extended, the condition of the roofs, as well as the plastic and wooden structures, has worsened, leading to a near-total loss of habitable space.
“The tent in which we reside has suffered damage and deterioration over time. The bamboo structures and shelters have been compromised, the surrounding water sources have diminished, and the tents we constructed in the forest have also succumbed to rot due to their bamboo composition,” he stated.
Over a thousand residents from the villages of Sumpiyang, Nsiyang, and Wadat are currently residing in the Hpung Ngai Yang IDP camp, having reportedly evacuated on May 11, 2024.
