As said by the local residents, there is a shortage of fuel, and there is also a shortage of goods such as green groceries markets and even in large grocery stores, in addition, most of the machinery businesses have been closed.
According to a local, “I went to the market the whole day looking for kitchenware, food, and green groceries, but all of the stuff are shortages, and most of the large grocery stores are closed. I don’t even know what to do if the goods run out. I think the situation in Putao is the worst this time.”
The highway of Myitkyina-Putao is still closed, and it is reported that almost all of the machinery businesses have stopped due to the road closure in 5 townships of Putao region.
As explained by a Putao resident who works in the iron industry, “there is a shortage of goods and fuel in Putao, therefore, we can’t do anything. Everything is affected by the road closures and all of these difficulties occur due to the unstable political situation.”
Therefore, most of the vehicles repaired businesses, stores businesses, the traders, passenger transportation services, the cargo transportations and machinery businesses in Putao region have been reported to be stopped.
The Myitkyina-Putao highway has been closed indefinitely since last March due to the armed conflict between the two armed-forces and it has been more than two months.
