According to communities close to Rev Fr Paul Hkwi Shane Aung, Rev Fr Paul Hkwi Shane Aung, who is Catholic parish priest of Mohnyin was shot by two unidentified assailants while presiding Holy Mass in the Mohnyin Aung ThaPyay RC church, approximately at 6:00 AM.
It is reported that two unidentified people entered the church premises where a church service was being held, and were shot with a gun. As a result, Rev Fr Paul Hkwi Shane Aung was hit twice in the abdomen seriously injuring him. In addition, he was taken to Mohnyin General Hospital.
As stated by the local residents, the house of Shan-ni Literature and Traditional Culture chairman, who lives in Sein YadanarMon Ward, was also hit by a hand-made bomb, at 8:00 PM, on April 11.
“The house of U Chit Ngwe, the chairman of Shan-ni, is close to my house. The offenders shell a hand-made mine into the courtyard of the house. Since it was night time, the doors of the house were closed, therefore no one was hurt. And it is still unclear where they came from,” said the neighbor of the chairman.
Although the locals still do not know about those who launched a hand-made bomb into the chairman’s house yesterday and those who shot the priest today, the residents of Mohnyin believe that they may be deliberately working to create discord between the Kachin and Shan people.
According to local residents, the house of Shanni Literature and Traditional Culture Chairman U Chit Ngwe from Sein Yadanar Mon Ward was shelled with a hand-made bomb, and it is reported that two unidentified people shot at Rev Fr Paul Hkwi Shane Aung in Aung ThaPyay Ward this morning while presiding Holy Mass.
On March 18, an unidentified armed group shot and killed a Kachin Baptist religious leader U Hkun Jaw Li, a resident of Nammati, Mogaung Town.
