A motorcycle accident took place near the phone shop named “Seng 7” on Shwe Lan Ma Road in Myitkyina at approximately 10:30 p.m. on the night of February 17th, resulting in one fatality.
An eyewitness recounted, "He approached on his motorcycle, and there was a tree situated a short distance from our shop. He collided with the tree and was thrown off. Subsequently, he struck the door of a nearby house before crashing his motorcycle directly in front of my shop, where he suffered a fatal head injury upon hitting the concrete."
The individual who passed away hailed from Waingmaw Town and was en-route to Myitkyina accompanied by friends at the time of the incident. Approximately 15 minutes following the accident, he was transported to the morgue via ambulance. The deceased was a married man in his thirties and the father of three children.
Since the coup, there has been a notable rise in traffic accidents and fatalities. According to Social Relief Associations, Myitkyina experiences an average of one traffic-related death each month.
