A residence located in Ward (3) of Mang Win Gyi Village, Mansi Township, Kachin State, was engulfed in flames at approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday, resulting in the loss of nearly 45,000,000 kyats in cash, as reported by a local inhabitant.

The homeowner and his spouse stated that they were unaware of the cause of the fire, as it occurred while they were visiting their in-laws. They also expressed their inability to recover any of their possessions, including the house itself.

“They both earned their living by engaging in the buying and selling of scrap metal from their residence. Unfortunately, they lost everything, including their father-in-law's car, which was also damaged. At the time of the house fire, they were not present; the husband was unwell and staying at his parents' home, while the wife was en route to another location after administering traditional treatment known as mahkalawng to her husband. It was during this period that the fire erupted. Upon receiving the news, they returned to find their home still standing, but they had lost everything as all their possessions were destroyed,” as recounted by a local witness.

The residence was a single-story wooden structure. The owner, who was unwell, was recuperating at his parents' home alongside his wife when the fire ignited.

Neighbors provided assistance during the house fire; however, the flames could not be contained, resulting in the destruction of both a vehicle and a residence within a brief period. The vehicle was valued at approximately 18,000,000 kyats, while the house and its contents were estimated to be worth around 25,000,000 kyats.

Homeowners have reported that a comparable house fire took place in the same residence approximately 20 years ago, and a similar incident has recurred this year after two decades.
