The SAC said that they will straighten the water canal and construct a dam along the Malihka River, which is maintained and protected by the local people of MaKapMung village, even so, the chief strategist of No (46) Infantry Battalion was digging for gold with large machinery.

According to a local resident of MaKapMung Village, “There are many golds in these areas, but these are forbidden and protected areas where even the local villagers are not allowed to mine gold. Not only the fields and plantations, but also the village lands are protected because the water can erode and the waterways can be damaged due to the gold mining. Now the chief strategist himself has been mining for gold with excavators for three months. The local residents did not dare to object to him,” he said.

It has been 3 months already, that the chief strategist has been mining gold in the Malihka River, a place where the residents have protested against gold mining activities.

Although they said that they will straighten the water canal and construct a dam, they are mining with large machinery without constructing a dam. In addition, currently, wasteland has been placed like a mountain in the middle of the Malihka River and the waterways have become worse than before.

Additionally, a local resident of Machanbaw said that the chief strategist himself collected 1,500,000 ks per gold shift, above the Milihka suspension bridge where the local also prohibited, and was authorized to work more than 15 gold shifts.

As added by the Machanbaw local resident, “even in the previous years, the areas were strictly protected as the Town area, but this year, the chief strategist asked people to pay 1,500,000 ks per gold shift, and now there are more than fifteen gold shifts,” he said.

As stated by local residents, the chief strategist of the No (46) Infantry Battalion collects taxes from other entrepreneurs, allows them to mine gold in areas where local residents object and prohibit it, and works as if it were his own business, and in some places, he also does gold mining of his own.

Many gold mining areas along the Malihka River in Putao Township and Machanbaw Township were closed due to the shortage of fuel, but the chief strategist’s blocks, the two areas above Malihka suspension bridge near Hka Shi village and Machanbaw Town, in MaKapMung village group, the excavations are still ongoing.
