The SAC granted clemency to over 5,000 inmates in commemoration of Liberation Day on January 4, which included 53 individuals from Myitkyina Prison, as well as former Kachin State Chief Minister Dr. Khet Aung.
Dr. Khet Aung, the former Chief Minister of Kachin State, has been in custody since February 1, 2021, following the military takeover by the State Administration Council (SAC). He has received a sentence of three years for each of the four counts under Section 55 of the Corruption Eradication Act, amounting to a total of 12 years in prison.
Among the 53 inmates released from Myitkyina Prison, merely two were female, resulting in a cumulative total of 5,864 prisoners released across the country.
